An urban Bathing Palace – Stockholm’s new living room on the water.

The bathing palace is the whole of Stockholm’s new cold bath house and meeting place. The building is open both in summer and winter time and is organized to attract the dedicated winter swimmers as well as strollers and tourists. The bath has a clear organization that separates public cafés and bathing spots from secluded pools and sauna sections, swimming pools and stairs in all directions makes Riddarfjärden accessible for bathing all year round. Each sauna is positioned for the best possible views and the common sauna centrally in the facility has a magnificent panoramic view of Riddarfjärden and the city hall.

The architecture is robust and elegant with delicate details. The arcade of the wrought wooden facade is reflected in Riddarfjärden and offers protected niches in all directions – here it will be leeward and warm already in the early spring. In the arcade there is room to enjoy the view after the sauna, from here there are stairs down in Riddarfjärden which allow for spontaneous dipping and offer an alternative to the more protected pools. Around the shared central pool are outdoor showers, recliners and sunbathing space. In the summertime, the entire roof is transformed into a public sundeck with a kiosk, diving tower and space for concerts and outdoor yoga – Stockholm’s new living room on Riddarfjärden.

Already on Södermälarstrand, visitors to the Bathing Palace are welcomed with a kiosk and public seating areas. The boardwalk to the building is designed as a public bath with a view to the west and the afternoon sun. The Bath Palace is the obvious meeting place on Riddarfjärden that the city has so long been missing. Welcome!
